1. Policy Statement:

The Happy House Chipperfield is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children participating in our play sessions. We aim to protect children from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and to ensure that their well-being is our top priority.

2. Legal Framework:

This policy complies with relevant local and national laws and regulations regarding child protection. We are committed to working in partnership with local authorities and other organizations to safeguard children effectively.

3. Key Principles:

a. All children have the right to be protected from harm.

b. Everyone, irrespective of their role, shares the responsibility for safeguarding children.

c. Open communication and a culture of vigilance are essential to maintaining a safe environment.

d. All concerns and allegations of abuse or neglect will be taken seriously and dealt with promptly.

4. Roles and Responsibilities:

a. Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO):

  • Alex Dean is appointed as the DSO and is responsible for coordinating child protection efforts, providing advice, and ensuring staff/volunteers are trained.

b. Staff and Volunteers:

  • All staff and volunteers are responsible for the safety and well-being of the children during play sessions.

  • Any concerns or suspicions regarding child welfare must be reported to the DSO immediately.

c. Parents/Guardians:

  • Parents/guardians must remain in constant supervision of their child and are encouraged to actively participate in their child's play sessions and report any concerns to the DSO.

5. Safer Recruitment:

a. All staff and volunteers working with children will undergo a thorough recruitment process, including background checks and references.

6. Training and Awareness:

a. All staff and volunteers will receive appropriate training on child protection and safeguarding.

b. Regular awareness sessions will be conducted to keep everyone updated on best practices.

7. Code of Conduct:

a. A clear code of conduct is in place for all staff, volunteers, and participants, emphasizing appropriate behavior and interactions.

8. Reporting Procedures:

a. Clear procedures are in place for reporting and responding to concerns or allegations of abuse, including how to escalate matters to the appropriate authorities.

9. Confidentiality:

a. Information relating to child safeguarding will be handled with the utmost confidentiality, shared only with those who need to know.

10. Review and Monitoring:

a. This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with relevant legislation.

11. Communication:

a. This policy will be communicated to all staff, volunteers, parents, and other stakeholders, and made readily available.
